Does the full-band signal jammer have the same shielding distance for different mobile phones?

by LIU YIFA 23 Jul 2025

In places such as examination rooms, prisons, and conference rooms where wireless signals are strictly managed, full-band signal jammers are often used to cut off the communication between mobile phones and base stations. But many people will ask: Does it have the same shielding effect on all types of mobile phones? The answer is no.

1. Different mobile phone models have different frequency bands

The principle of the full-band signal blocker is to transmit interference signals of the same frequency to the communication frequency band used by the mobile phone, causing "camouflage noise" so that the mobile phone cannot receive the base station signal normally. Since different generations and standards of mobile phones use different frequency bands, the shielding effect is also different:

2G (GSM): about 900–1800 MHz

CDMA: about 800–1900 MHz, with stronger anti-interference ability

3G (WCDMA): about 1900–2100 MHz

4G (LTE): about 2300–2500 MHz

5G (Sub-6GHz): about 3300–3600 MHz (common in China)

2. Shielding distance varies according to the standard

The shielding distance of full-band jammers for mobile phones of different standards is not the same. Taking GSM and CDMA as an example, the anti-interference ability of CDMA mobile phones is generally higher than that of GSM mobile phones. Therefore, at the same power, the effective interference range of the jammer for CDMA mobile phones is usually 2–4 meters smaller than that for GSM mobile phones.

In addition, the signal reception strength of the mobile phone itself also affects the shielding distance. If the signal of a certain standard mobile phone is originally strong in the venue, the jammer needs to emit a higher intensity interference signal to achieve the shielding effect, and the actual interference distance will be shortened accordingly.

3. Environmental factors are also critical

Signal propagation is not only related to the equipment, but environmental factors also play an important role:

Building structure: heavy walls, metal materials, etc. have a certain blocking effect on the signal itself, and will also affect the propagation of interference signals.

Base station distance and distribution: whether there is a high-power signal source nearby will also change the signal strength of different standard mobile phones.

Mobile phone model and antenna design: high-end mobile phones have stronger communication capabilities under weak signal conditions and are more difficult to shield.

The shielding distance of full-band signal jammers for mobile phones of different standards is not consistent, which is mainly affected by multiple factors such as the anti-interference ability of the mobile phone, signal frequency band, surrounding signal strength and environmental structure. In actual deployment, reasonable layout and power adjustment should be carried out according to the site structure and communication environment to ensure a comprehensive and balanced shielding effect.
