How to Prevent Children from Being Addicted to Online Games

by LIU YIFA 11 Sep 2025

Children's addiction to online games has long been a headache for many parents. With the rapid development of mobile internet and the increasing popularity of smart devices like smartphones and tablets, smartphone use has become ubiquitous among students, extending to elementary school. Schools face numerous challenges in managing smartphones:

1. Playing games and chatting online during class time;

2. Staying awake at night while using phones;

3. Chatting online and browsing unhealthy content;

4. Using phones and other devices to cheat on exams.

If parents or teachers resort to coercive measures such as bans to manage student mobile phones, many children will strongly resist, increasing friction between parents, teachers, and students. How to effectively manage student smartphone use has garnered widespread attention.

Based on the current situation, we can:

1. Increase interaction time with children, prioritize their outdoor activities, and encourage them to participate in more outdoor activities. This will reduce the amount of time children spend playing games at home and help cultivate a positive relationship between parents and children.

2. Encourage children to play educational games or learning software to ensure a fun and educational experience.

3. Control the time children spend playing games: Use a cell phone signal blocker to properly manage Wi-Fi signals, preventing students from accessing the internet and playing games on their phones during specific times. This can reduce resistance during communication between children and parents.
